Voter turnout at 12:00 pm at 18.14 pct - State Electoral Commission

The voter turnout in Poland's parliamentary elections reached 18.4 percent at 12:00 p.m., deputy head of the State Electoral Commission (PKW) Sylwester Marciniak told a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

The highest turnout was in the Malopolskie province, southern Poland, where it reached 21.13 percent and the lowest in the Opolskie province, southwestern Poland, where it amounted to 15.26 percent. 

In terms of electoral districts, the most votes were cast in Nowy Sacz, southern Poland, where it reached 23.32 percent of the electorate. 

As for cities, the highest turnout so far was in Bialystok, northeastern Poland - 21.05 percent, followed by Warsaw 20.73 pct and Bydgoszcz, northern Poland - 20.63 pct. 

In the 2015 elections the voter turnout at 12 noon reached 16.47 pct.

In Sunday's ballot, Poles are electing 460 MPs and 100 senators for a four-year term. 

Polling stations in Poland opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 9:00 p.m. 

Mandatory election silence is in force nationwide until the end of voting. 

PKW will hold another press conference at 6:30 p.m. to present voter turnout by 5:00 p.m. (PAP)
