Voter turnout at 5:00 pm at 45.94 pct - electoral body

The voter turnout in Sunday's parliamentary elections at 5:00 pm reached 45.94 percent, the State Electoral Commission (PKW) announced at a press conference on Sunday evening.

The highest turnout was in the Mazowieckie province, central Poland, where it reached 49.59 percent and the lowest in the Opolskie province, southwestern Poland, where it amounted to 39.54 percent.

As for cities, the highest turnout so far was in Warsaw - 54.86 percent and the lowest, 39.54 percent in Opole, southwestern, Poland.

In the 2015 elections, the voter turnout at 5 pm reached 38.97 pct.

Polling stations in Poland opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 9:00 p.m.

In Sunday's ballot, Poles are electing 460 MPs and 100 senators for a four-year term.

Mandatory election silence is in force nationwide until the end of voting. 

The PKW plans to announce the first partial election results on Monday and final results on Tuesday. (PAP)
