Forty-nine percent of Poles believe that there is a realistic threat of terrorist attacks in their country, according to a survey by pollster TNS Polska.

Of this, 6 percent are strongly convinced that such a threat exists, and 43 percent are less confident, the survey shows. Ten percent of respondents are undecided.

The survey also shows that 27 percent of respondents fear they may become an accidental victim of a terrorist attack. According to TNS Polska, the sense of personal threat among Poles is similar to that seen last year.

Sixty-eight percent of respondents say they have a high opinion of efforts to ensure security during the upcoming NATO summit in Warsaw, and 67 percent think the same of security measures for the Roman Catholic Church’s World Youth Day event in southern Poland at the end of July. At the same time, 73 percent of those polled consider themselves to be well informed about NATO’s July 8-9 summit, and 76 percent say they are well informed about World Youth Day, which will be held in and around Krakow July 26-31.

TNS Polska carried out the survey from May 13 to 18 on a nationwide representative sample of 1,009 respondents aged 15 years and older. (PAP)
