Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President of the European Council Charles Michel are to discuss the next EU budget on Wednesday, EU sources have told PAP.

Also discussed will be a European recovery fund.

This week, Michel started a series of consultations with EU leaders. They are to pave the way for a compromise on the Community's financial framework at the July 17-18 summit in Brussels.

So far, differences between the member states are very large. Most EU countries are not satisfied with the EC's initial budget draft, with the exceptions of Italy, Spain and Poland, countries which would benefit most, an EU official told PAP.

The EU budget proposal for the years 2021-2027, presented at the end of May together with funds for economic recovery after the coronavirus pandemic slump, has been well received by Polish authorities. It forsees that Poland will be the third largest recipient of loans and grants for post-pandemic reconstruction. According to the presented draft, Poland would receive EUR 64 billion out of a total of EUR 750 billion included in the plan. (PAP)
