President Andrzej Duda has signed into law a bill introducing a Polish Tourism Voucher offering financial aid to Polish holidaymakers who decide to spend their vacations in Poland, the development ministry said on Friday.

By encouraging families to take holidays with their children, the new law is also meant to bolster Poland's epidemic-hit tourist branch.

Eligible for the PLN 500 (EUR 112) tourist voucher will be children from families receiving the 500 Plus child benefit, children in institutional and foster care, and disabled children, for whom the voucher amount will be doubled as well as children of parents who are working abroad, the ministry said.

The voucher can be used to pay for hotels and tourist events until March 31, 2022 and cannot be exchanged for cash or other payment equivalents.

The Polish Tourist Voucher programme was initiated by President Andrzej Duda. It is expected to embrace around 6.5 million children up to the age of 18. The estimated total value of the vouchers will be around PLN 3.5 billion (EUR 780 mln), according to the development ministry. (PAP)
