Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia maintain the position in their appeal to the Belarusian authorities, the four countries' readiness to support a political process to implement the free will of the Belarusian people, Polish President Andrzej Duda tweeted on Monday.
Last Thursday, the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia called on the Belarusian authorities to de-escalate tensions in the country, immediately stop using force against citizens, release the detained participants of political protests and initiate an immediate dialogue with the Belarusian people in the form of a round table.
The four leaders also offered "mediation commitment" in order to achieve a peaceful solution in Belarus and "to strengthen the independence and sovereignty" of the country.
"I have just held a teleconference with the presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Its purpose was to exchange views on the developments in Belarus, especially in the context of regional security. Our four countries maintain the position expressed in the appeal to the Belarusian authorities," Duda wrote on Twitter.
"We also maintain readiness to support the political process that will implement the free will of the Belarusian people. We agreed to continue the close cooperation of the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on these issues and to jointly monitor the situation," the president added. (PAP)
