After the informal EU summit in Valletta, PM Szydlo said that in talks with other leaders she discussed the need to maintain the sanctions against Russia that the EU had imposed on Moscow for its role in the Ukrainian conflict.
Szydlo expressed satisfaction with the EU leaders' declaration on migration. Poland's consistent arguments that the migration problem should be resolved outside the EU borders have brought about a change in the policy of the whole EU, according to the Polish PM.
"We are ready to support the very ambitious migration policy that focuses on resolving the problem outside the EU borders," Beata Szydlo declared, stressing Poland's involvement in protecting external borders and supporting other EU members in this area.
"We want to be at the forefront of European solidarity with those countries that need this humanitarian and political cooperation," Szydlo stressed.
However, Poland has one condition: Warsaw's expectations towards the European asylum system should be taken into account, Szydlo also said.
The leaders also discussed the EU's cooperation with the administration of the new US president, Donald Trump. Poland reiterated its position that the EU should remain united and seek dialogue in talks with the United States, Szydlo reported. (PAP)
