The Arraiolos Group holds annual informal summits to discuss current security issues and coordinate responses. Its 19th edition gathered the presidents of Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Croatia, Greece, Estonia, Slovenia, Latvia, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The President's Office reported that the meeting would focus on strengthening transatlantic relations in light of global challenges. The subject relates to Poland's top priority in the upcoming EU presidency - promoting EU-US cooperation.
The leaders will also address the potential EU accession of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, as well as the Western Balkan countries.
According to the President's Office, the summit stands out as a major international relations event held in Poland this year.
The Arraiolos Group was founded in 2003 on the initiative of Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio. The name derives from the city in Portugal where the first meeting of the presidents of Poland, Austria, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Portugal, Hungary and Italy took place. Subsequently, Slovenia, Croatia, Estonia, and Bulgaria joined the group, followed by Malta and Greece. (PAP)
