Polish and Latvian foreign ministers, Radoslaw Sikorski and Baiba Braze, respectively, met in Warsaw on Thursday to discuss the bilateral strategic partnership amid Russia's increasing assertiveness.

"We have confirmed the strategic partnership of Poland and Latvia, particularly in the area of defence," Sikorski said at a press conference following the talks.

He also said both countries believed it is crucial for Ukraine to win the war against Russia.

"Without Ukraine's victory there is no safe Europe, and our countries understand each other here without words and we're at the forefront of the leaders when it comes to aid to Ukraine," Sikorski said.

Also on the agenda was the upcoming NATO summit in Washington on July 9-11, Sikorski said, adding that he and Braze discussed "the need to mobilise EU resources towards Ukraine's victory."

Both ministers reviewed the recent spate of cyberattacks, of which they suspect Russia, and Moscow's disinformation campaign.

Sikorski said Poland would continue to participate in NATO's air policing mission over the Baltic states, including Latvia. (PAP)
