The contract for the construction of the 'Ratownik' rescue vessel for the Polish Navy was signed on Friday in the northern Polish port city of Gdynia.
"This is a huge investment," Kosiniak-Kamysz said during the event, revealing that the value of the contract would exceed PLN 1 billion (EUR 230 mln). The ship's construction is anticipated to begin in one year, with the expectation that the vessel will be operational by 2029.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the ship will carry nearly 110 crew members tasked with sea rescue missions. "The 'Ratownik' ship will be used by the Navy to ensure the safety of all maritime forces which operate on the Baltic Sea... as well as to assist civilian ships should the need arise," he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also mentioned that the new rescue vessel would be capable of providing underwater assistance in anticipation of new submarines to be acquired for the Polish Navy as part of the 'Orka' programme. "We will be the ones who transform words into actions," Kosiniak-Kamysz said about the current government's commitment to implement the programme. (PAP)
