Tusk visited a military base near the border on Wednesday, together with his defence and interior ministers in a show of support for the border guard and soldiers protecting the border.
"We will make a decision to reinstate the 200-metre buffer zone at the border," Tusk said, adding that the solution was recommended to the government by officers at the border.
"And together with the ministers of defence and interior and the whole government, we will make such a decision at the beginning of next week," Tusk said.
Police forces will be boosted in the border area as well, he added.
"We have also agreed that we will use more police force, in particular, in places where there are group attempts to cross the border," Tusk said.
Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said additional troops will also be sent to the area.
A Polish soldier was stabbed by a migrant trying to cross the border into Poland from Belarus on Tuesday. A deputy defence minister described his condition as serious. (PAP)
