Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Tuesday that US President-elect Donald Trump had told him over the phone that the idea to meet before Trump assumes office was a great idea.

Trump called Duda to congratulate him on Poland's Independence Day on Monday.

The Polish president said in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he is attending the COP29 UN climate conference, that he had suggested to Trump that they should meet before the US president-elect starts his term in office in January due to the fact that Poland takes over the sixth-month rotating presidency of the EU in the same month.

"He said it was a great idea and it should be done," Duda said. "We agreed that our aides will arrange the date of the meeting... the details are to be established." (PAP)
