Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Friday congratulated the leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, who became the new Prime Minister of Great Britain, replacing the Conservative Party's Rishi Sunak.

"Dear Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Congratulations on your truly great victory. I deeply believe that together we will do a lot of good for the UK, for Poland, for Europe and for the free world," Donald Tusk posted on the X platform.

Labour Party leader Keir Starmer became the new Prime Minister of Great Britain on Friday. Starmer is the 58th prime minister in the country's history.

At noon London time, Starmer was received by King Charles III, who entrusted him - as the leader of the winning party in the elections - with the mission of forming a government.

In Thursday's elections to the House of Commons, Labour took 412 seats, which gives them a comfortable majority and is their second best result in history. The Labour Party had been in opposition since losing the election to the Conservative Party under David Cameron in May 2010. (PAP)
