President Andrzej Duda has signed an amendment to the law on special post-flood recovery measures in order to better support individuals, holders of loans and entrepreneurs affected by flooding in the south-western regions of the country.

The information was announced on Thursday evening by the President’s Office.

The draft law was earlier unanimously adopted by the Senate (upper house), following Tuesday's vote in the lower house.

The draft law envisages an emergency allowance aimed at addressing the educational needs of children attending a compulsory annual preschool preparation course and of school children, additional care allowances, as well as aid for employees and holders of loans.

Storm Boris has left a trail of severe devastation in Central Eastern Europe. The south-western regions of Poland have been devastated by floods after heavy rain increased water levels in local rivers.

The Polish government has introduced a state of natural disaster, a legal measure aimed to streamline government support for regions affected by floods. (PAP)
