The upper house of the Polish parliament has passed a draft amendment to the law on special post-flood recovery measures in order to better support individuals, holders of loans and entrepreneurs affected by flooding in the south-western regions of the country.

The Senate, on Thursday, unanimously adopted the draft law following Tuesday's vote in the lower house.

Storm Boris has left a trail of severe devastation in Central Eastern Europe. The south-western regions of Poland have been devastated by floods after heavy rain increased water levels in local rivers.

The government has introduced a state of natural disaster, a legal measure aimed to streamline government support for regions affected by floods.

The draft law envisages an emergency allowance aimed at addressing the educational needs of children attending a compulsory annual preschool preparation course and of school children, additional care allowances, as well as aid for employees and holders of loans. (PAP)
