Poland will soon settle delayed payment for Czech-initiated purchase of ammunition for Ukraine, the foreign minister said in Kyiv on Friday.

At the end of May, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced that 15 countries from the EU and NATO had donated more than EUR 1.6 billion to a Czech initiative to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine so it can continue to repel the Russian invasion.

Radoslaw Sikorski told a joint press conference following a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha that although Poland has not yet sent the promised funds, the country "stands by its offer of EUR 50 million this year and EUR 50 million next year."

The minister explained that the delay is connected to the investigation into irregularities in the functioning of Poland's Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS).

"But we will clear this issue first and foremost," Sikorski declared.

Michal K., the former head of RARS, was recently detained in London on a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) in connection with charges of exceeding his powers while in office for financial gain. (PAP)
