On Monday Sikorski participated in the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. While there, he told reporters that Poland had proposed a few ideas which "were met with the support of the member states."
He said: "We proposed, for example, the return of the practice of sending groups of ministers to different regions of the world. Also - during the (EU Council - PAP) presidency of a given country, to involve the treaty-dictated deputy to the high representative, that is, the foreign minister of the country currently holding the presidency."
Sikorski added that this would create the opportunity to conduct future meetings "more effectively and decisively."
The meeting held on December 16 marked the inaugural session under the leadership of Kallas, who assumed the role of high representative in June. In this context, Sikorski said: "It began with an informal meeting on the mode of functioning of the Foreign Affairs Council which, in my opinion, was a very good approach. For the first time the head of EU diplomacy is a former prime minister. I hope that she brings over some of the customs from the European Council to the meetings of the ministers, such as discussions without the involvement of national, or EU officials." (PAP)
