Andrzej Duda, the Polish president, said after talks with Emir of the State of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that Qatar is Poland's leading energy partner and a very important Persian Gulf state.

On Friday, Duda met with the emir of Qatar who paid an official visit to Poland.

"Qatar is absolutely a leading energy partner of Poland, being a supplier of liquefied natural gas to the Swinoujscie LNG terminal (the north-western part of the country - PAP)," the Polish president said after the talks.

Duda also said that Qatar "has a key location in its part of the world." "It is a country, which has much to say in the Persian Gulf region."

According to Duda, "in today's difficult security situation, also in our part of Europe ...the position of a country, which has a strong voice as far as energy is concerned ...is of significance."

Having recalled that the Polish-Qatari Technology Forum has been held every year for five years now, Duda said that he hoped that an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of higher education and science, signed by the two sides, would help strengthen bilateral collaboration in the field of new technologies research.

The Emir of Qatar thanked Duda for having invited him to Poland and said that bilateral relations were on a very good level. He added that they could be even described as strategic, especially in energy, which is so important for both sides. (PAP)
