"Personnel, yes, that's an important thing," Tusk said on Wednesday, commenting on the leaders' talks the day before. "I would like the people who are chosen to be able to do what we want them to do.
"But the most important thing is what we want them to commit to - which is fighting illegal migration, safe internal borders - with a special focus on the European border with Russia and Belarus, so our, Polish border, as well as common defence, primarily the common European air defence and reconstruction of industry, not only arms industry," Tusk said.
The Polish prime minister expressed satisfaction that "such a relatively tough project on illegal migration, the borders and defence was also accepted by Europe's left communities."
According to the Tuesday agreement, Ursula von der Leyen will continue in her role as the European Commission president, while Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa is to be appointed president of the European Council. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is to become the EU's new foreign policy chief. (PAP)
