There is a wide consensus among the allies that Ukraine can only join NATO after the end of the war, therefore it will not be achieved during this summit, Radoslaw Sikorski, the minister of foreign affairs, said in Washington during the NATO summit on Tuesday.

"It appears that there is a belief, that Ukraine will be able to join the alliance when the war is over," Sikorski said.

"There is nothing less safe than safety guarantees that cannot be trusted," he added.

During the summit, Ukraine will receive a USD 40 billion dollar aid package and sign mutual security agreements with selected NATO member states.

Sikorski also mentioned talks on the prospects of shooting down Russian missiles before they reach Poland's territory and said there are ongoing talks among the allies on taking such actions.

The foreign minister also has commented on Hungary's President Viktor Orban's actions. The Polish foreign minister said that he only represents Hungarian viewpoints.

Orban, in recent days, has visited Kyiv, Moscow, and Beijing without prior consultation with European allies. Hungary has blocked 2 billion PLN (EUR 470 million) in refunds to Poland for military equipment for Ukraine. A fact that Poland's government asked Budapest many times to rectify. (PAP)
