The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared readiness to evacuate Polish citizens in case the conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border escalates.

"No one wishes for war and human suffering," Pawel Wronski, foreign ministry spokesman, said on Monday. "However, if it comes to this, Poland is ready to help and has a number of scenarios prepared."

Israel has accused Lebanese Hezbollah of killing 12 children by firing a rocket at a football field in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights on Saturday. Israel has also warned of a retaliatory response, causing global concerns about escalation of the conflict in the region.

Wronski said the foreign ministry had for some time been analysing a range of scenarios of the conflict on the Israeli-Lebanese borderland flaring up.

"Various scenarios have been practised many times and are being practised among NATO allies," he said.

"We know there's a group of about 500 people with whom our diplomatic missions are in contact for various reasons should it come to the worst, to some hostilities," Wronski continued.

"If, at any moment, conflict or threat appears to these citizens, Poland is ready to evacuate them under various scenarios," he said. (PAP)
