A total of 10 Arabian horses were sold at the prestigious Pride of Poland auction in the country's celebrated stud farm of Janow Podlaski in eastern Poland on Sunday, netting their owners a combined EUR 637,000.
A total of 18 horses were presented at the 55th Pride of Poland auction, 15 mares and 3 stallions. Out of them, 12 horses came from state studs in Janow Podlaski, Michałow and Bialka, while six horses were privately bred.
A 15-year-old mare named Zigi Zana, bred at the Michalow stud farm in southern Poland, fetched the auction's highest price, EUR 145,000. She was sold to a Belgian bidder.
Alexandra, a four-year-old mare from Janow Podlaski, was sold for EUR 120,000 and bought by a buyer from Qatar; while a three-year-old mare, Abellia, from the same local farm was sold for EUR 105,000 to a buyer from Belgium.
The 10 sold horses were acquired by buyers from Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden and Slovenia.
The three-day 46th Polish National Arabian Horse Show, held in Janow Podlaski, ended on Sunday.
The event is organised annually to present the most beautiful Arabian horses from Poland's state-run stud farms and private breeders.
This year, a total of 98 horses were entered into a three-day competition to be evaluated by an international panel of judges and ten-year old Adelita from the Janow Podlaski stud farm was selected as the National Champion.
The Polish Stallion Championship was won by the seven-year-old chestnut stallion Erantis from the same stud farm.
Gold medals in the category of yearling mares and stallions were won by Anagramma and Comoros, also from Janow Podlaski.
Wildonara from the state stud farm in Michalow was named the best younger mare and Elon KL bred at the private stud farm Klikowa Rzepka won the younger stallions category.
The Pride of Poland has been organised in Janow Podlaski since 1970. The Janow Podlaski stud farm, established in 1817, is the oldest state-owned stud farm in Poland. (PAP)
