The Polish defence minister has announced that the country’s defence budget for the upcoming year will reach a historic peak and be 10-percent higher than in 2024.

On Thursday, during the signing ceremony of an agreement on logistical support for the PILICA anti-aircraft missile and artillery sets in Sochaczew, central Poland, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that an increase would be seen both when it comes to nominal expenditure and expenditure in terms of GDP.

"Against the rumours that wish otherwise, our government has decided to increase defence spending. The defence budget next year will be a record one," he said.

He added that in 2024, the defence budget was adopted at around PLN 169 billion (EUR 39 bln), while "next year it will be even higher, we estimate about 10 percent more. This is incomparable to what it was in previous years."

At the same time, he said that this biggest budget in history was adopted in order to implement programmes such as PILICA. (PAP)
