Polish President Andrzej Duda has called a meeting of the country's top officials under the National Security Council (RBN) format ahead of the upcoming NATO summit.

NATO leaders will meet in Washington next Tuesday to Thursday.

Duda wants to talk to government, defence and security officials as well as party leaders on Monday to align the country's policy a day before the Washington meeting.

"I have decided to call for Monday, at 9am, before our flight to Washington, the National Security Council, where there will be a possibility to exchange thoughts and ideas concerning what is going to be discussed at the NATO summit from the political perspective," Duda said after a briefing with the defence minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, and top military commanders in the north-central city of Bydgoszcz on Thursday.

The meeting at the Doctrine and Training Centre of the Polish Armed Forces in Bydgoszcz focused on military affairs to be discussed before the summit, Duda said.

"This concerned both logistics and planning issues," the president commented.

"This was the military component, very crucial, but alongside it there is also the political component," Duda continued, referring to the RBN meeting. "This second one will be analysed primarily with our colleagues from the world of politics."

The RBN, an advisory body to the president, convenes when key national security issues need to be discussed. (PAP)
