Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has backed Prague's call to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within the EU.

The motion came in response to the increased threat of Russia-orchestrated sabotage and disinformation campaigns across the European Union, Moldova and Georgia, Sikorski told the press during the NATO ministerial summit in Brussels on Wednesday.

The Czech Republic had proposed limiting the travel of Russian diplomats to accredited member states, which would "prevent enemies of the EU and the Schengen Area from benefitting from the freedoms associated with them or from conducting intelligence operations in other states," Sikorski said.

The minister added that Poland had already imposed movement restrictions on Russian diplomats throughout the country and ordered the closing of the Russian consulate in the western city of Poznan. Warsaw stated that it had been compelled to take action due to evidence indicating that Moscow had sanctioned sabotage activities on Polish territory. (PAP)
